Have you heard about Smartypig? If not, you are going to love it after reading this great blog post!
(Humble, aren’t I?)
I discovered Smartypig a few months back and was happy to sign up for it. It’s similar to ING. Both are Internet banks and because they have very little overhead expenses (like banks, employees and mailing costs). Because of this, they are able to offer higher interest rates than traditional banks.
Higher interest rates = Your money growing faster = Good!
Another great aspect to Internet banks, at least for me is the inability to access the money quickly. I know that both programs have debit cards available but for me, I do not request them. The harder it is to get the money, the less likely I am to buy on impulse.
Easy access to money = more impulse buying = bad.
What I love even more about Smartypig is their connections with social media. As you may see on the right side of this screen, Smartypig has a widget that you can embed into websites and blogs. You can link up with & and let others know about your savings goals.
For example, let’s pretend someone has two kids. This person sets up a savings account for each child. If this person had family members who like to send money for special occasions, they could post the widget on their blog or update their Facebook page. Family members could then click on those links and add money directly into the savings accounts.
Once the money is deposited, the widget updates and you can see the progress of the savings account.
Currently SmartyPig is running a Referral Campaign (and if one of your New Year’s Resolutions is to save money, this may be a great time to start) for each person who uses your referral code to open a new account, you can earn $25. Now your savings account can REALLY add up.
If you’d like to start a SmartyPig account, please leave your full name and email in the comments (once I see the comment, I will delete it so your email address isn’t out in the open) and I can send you a referral email. Once you sign up, spread the word to your family and friends and start building your savings!
Some FAQs on Smartypig:
And watch my widget as it grows (hopefully). My goal is $2000. I think that should be more than enough to move to Columbus in June. I’m including depoits, first month’s rent, utilities deposits and truck rental in this amount. I just moved $25 into that account so you should see a wee bit of progress in a day or two!
Be sure to let me know if you want to sign up, I’ll get a referral email out to you right away. And I really appreciate it if you do.
I also blog at A Five Star Life. I write about anything that comes to mind but try to focus on finding the good in daily life.
Hello,
I just found out about Smart Pig and read your blog. Could you please send me a referral email and let me know what this referral will do?
I appreciate your time.
Thank you,
Mary

The referral link, which I would need to email you provides me with $10. When I posted this blog post, the referral program was running a special. If you are still interested in an invite, let me know. I’d greatly appreciate adding the $10 to my moving out fund!!

Be Careful. There is small window to close goals annd the customer service can’t help you but will blame there “banking partner”. My transactions scheduled to come out biweekly (paid every other Friday). There system will not let you. Close goal until five days after psot for them. This doesn’t happen until 4 days after withdrawn from your personal account. That gives you one day to close before the next withdrawl begins and you can’t close the account. They will say that money already in account can’t be access while a new transaction is in this Smartpig created limbo. I would not recommend to friend, but if you use get a calender and some patince.
