Weekly Recap 2/5/2012 Give in to the Suckiness Edition

February 5, 2012

Blah!
That’s how I have felt all week. I have had this head cold that would not go away and it took me down with it. About Monday afternoon I decided to let the cold win and do as little work as I possibly could get by with. That meant no extra blogging on my part. I didn’t even go to class on Monday (per my professor’s instructions. I don’t think she wanted me to take out the whole class w/my ickiness.)

It wasn’t until Wednesday that I felt like I might still be human and it wasn’t until Friday when I felt like I could think clearly.
Thus, this blog got a bit dusty and not a heck of a lot got written.
The Boys and I are out of town this weekend at my mom’s. It’s bad, y’all. She has…wait for it….NO INTERNET!!!

I KNOW, right? I’m totally buggin’.

I’ll be back up and running Monday morning with a fresh lesson in What NOT to Do! For now, enjoy these posts!

My Writing Around the Web

As a staff writer for Everything Finance Blog I wrote a couple of posts:

As a staff writer for Enemy of Debt I wrote 10 Small Ways to Increase Your Emergency Fund without Noticing.

Personal Finance Blogs to Check Out

I want to make sure you are reading the other great content out there, not just what you find here at The Debt Princess. So I’m going to leave you some posts here that to check out in case you haven’t seen them.

  • John at Married with Debt Talks about Conscious Spending. This is something I have done in the past (I called it Planned Stupidity but in my case, it really is stupidity.). He’s not 100% debt free, yet but will be shortly after a planned trip to Europe. Some feel he’s going too soon, I do not. I have an opportunity to do something similar in the next few months that I haven’t discussed on my blog yet and this post gave me a lot to think about. It’s a good read.
  • Carrie at Careful Cents describes 3 New Programs for Tracking Debt and Savings. I have wanted to check each of these out and write about them as well (and I may still) but she’s shown me enough that I know I’m going to be checking these out.
  • RamblingFever Money talks about making money as a stay at home mom with an at-home daycare. I did this for a short while when I was a stay at home mom and I have to say, it’s a great way to bring in money and stay at home. Keep it small, just one kid or two and I think you’d have the perfect situation if you need the extra income (Also, check out my post on Making Money Online for some additional ways to bring a few bucks in easily.)
  • I love this story at 101 Centavos. Toothpaste Engineering and a Career Tip from a Former Boss provides a great lesson on listening to the “little people.” This short story is similar to the basis of the television show Undercover Boss, listening to the meat and potatoes of your business to truly understand how it operates.
  • My new favorite blog is Meal Plan Rescue! And this is something I GREATLY needed! It pairs so well with what I was saying in my piece about The Kool-Aid Effect. I can’t wait to follow along on their new series Food Connections. My connection to food is not positive but I’m hoping to fix that very soon.
  • Amanda at Frugal Confessions discusses the Zero Sum Financial Game. Working with a zero sum budget is almost impossible for me. I keep struggling to make mine balance. I like her tips to help get you by when things are tight at the end of the month@
  • Barbara at Barbara Friedberg Personal Finance shares The Best Negotiating story ever. I wish I could be more like this guy so that I can leverage my writing into more opportunities.
  • I wish I had read this post about Improving Negotiation by Being Willing to Walk Away before I had signed my lease for that apartment back in September. I might have saved myself some future problems. More people need to do this when they are looking to buy something, I think it will help all of us save some money!

Alright everyone, have a great day. Enjoy the Super Bowl, the Puppy Bowl, the Commercials or the radio silences if you are me! I’ll see you on Monday!

I also blog at A Five Star Life. I write about anything that comes to mind but try to focus on finding the good in daily life.

My kids got that cold that has been going around and are miserable. I am hoping they don’t share it with me! Hope you survive your weekend with no internet. Thanks for the good list of reads; I am off to check some out now.

I survived but it hurt. I need to learn how to toggle from my cell phone so that I can be online in an emergency. Emergencies, you know like twitter and facebook!
