Capital One is Insane

March 16, 2012

Seriously, I’m seething right now! I just don’t understand what is in the minds of credit lenders!

I AM IN DEBT!

I am in debt up to my eyeballs. I owe a lot of money to a lot of people. Mainly, CAPITAL ONE! Who has so kindly taken me to court for the $1,500 (plus fees) that I owe them. And rightly so. I don’t begrudge them for getting a judgement against me. I owe them the money, I haven’t filed bankruptcy, it’s how it should be.

But Capital One has decided that I am a good candidate for a credit card!

The last time I wrote about Capital One and their offers for credit cards, I mailed back two separate envelopes with my website address written on them. I have since mailed another back and as you can see below, I have two more to return to them.

Capital One was the first company to offer me a credit card after my bankruptcy. Just a year and a half later. They kept the credit limit low, just $200. And when I went over that limit, they charged me an over limit fee. Rather than declining my credit card when I went to make a purchase, the allowed it to go through and then charged me another over limit fee. When I didn’t make the minimum payment one time, they charged me a late fee which put my account over the limit and then charged me an over the limit fee.

I will NEVER EVER be desperate enough to use a credit card from Capital One. They prey on the poor and I find that to be absolutely disgusting.

I take full blame for being an uneducated, impulsive child (even at the age of 30) when I was using my Capital One Credit card. But I think Capital One should hold some blame for creating a horrendous tool for me to fund those impulsive purchases.

    Jessica,

Have you gone to court for the judgement yet? I would hang onto all those Capital One offers and take them to court with me. I wonder if you could sue them for harassment of credit card offers? Ridiculous.

Hey Debt Princess, What a lot people don’t realize, is that its big money in bad credit and in debt. That’s gravy for the Big three credit bureau, they sell that consumers information to credit card companies. So the offers in the mail is truly income to them, the credit card companies only need 1% to apply, be approved. And then the debt and credit snowball begins. Kudos to and your journey.

I would totally be seething with anger too. I actually blogged about this very thing last month. If you want to get hounded with credit card offers and loans, just be in a lot of debt and start trying to pay everything off. It’s like they can smell your working to become debt free. SO stupid.

I was watching the documentary Maxed Out on Netflix and it had me in tears. I can’t wait to have zero debt and never use anything that isn’t cash. The financial world is a scary maze for me.

Unfortunately in a company that big they have so many different areas with no overlap that this happens all too often. Way to stay strong and I hope it can lead to some common sense and better oversight in the future.
