Weekly Recap 1/29/2012: The Alexa Edition

January 29, 2012

First off let me just remind you that I SUCK (like you needed a reminder about that). This post was supposed to go up Sunday morning but being the dingbat that I am, I put the wrong date in here and low and behold, it didn’t post!

So a big part of this post is because I want to announce two things.

1. As a member of the Personal Finance Community, Yakezie I am joining the “Yakezie Challenge.” This six month long challenge has been established to help the community of bloggers improve their website ranking as well as come together as a community. The goal of the challenge is achieve an Alexa Ranking of 200,000 or less within the six months. This is achieved by having visitors to your blog who are using the Alexa Toolbar.

Proud Member of the Yakezie Challenge
And now for the second thing I want to announce:

2. Today I fell below 200,000 in my Alexa Ranking! As I am typing this (editing it now that it was delayed in posting) I am at 195,089! Woot!

I actually started this challenge about three times before however I consistently fail some part of it each time. I’m trying to do it right so I can become an official member of the Yakezie Community.

This week at The Debt Princess

  • I announced a new challenge that I have set for myself. The 30% Off Challenge is my quest to lose 30% of my body weight within the next year. I have also opened a Blog Frog Community for others who are interested in their own % Off Challenge.
  • I also introduced you to FiPath and helped them announce their new Save Generation X campaign. Please check out their site and sign their petition (the link to the petition is in my side bar.)

My writing wasn’t posted anywhere else online this past week but should be in the next couple of days so  you’ll see some links in my next recap.

The Personal Finance Community Around the Web

  • ProBlogger did a piece on Ramit Sethi and how he earns millions blogging. I am sure there isn’t a blogger out there who hasn’t for one moment (or five hundred) imagined what it would be like to make millions blogging. Now we can all take this advice and be on our way to doing the same.
  • Girls Just Wanna Have Funds is doing a three week long series on rocking your finances and day 13 was a great piece on building your emergency fund. I am working hard to build mine up as quickly as possible.
  • Kelly at The Centsible Life has a great piece on Fitness on a Budget which is something I’m deeply interested in as I’ve begun to take 30% off.
  • If you want to pay debt down faster then the series from Carrie at Careful Cents is exactly what you need to read. It’s a great series and is giving me ideas on more things I can do to work on my debt.

It’s been a rough weekend for me, I’m not feeling well and I’ve recently had to go off all medications due to an issue with my insurance. I’m seeing some emotional upheaval inside as well as loss of productivity. Basically, I’m feeling overwhelmed and I’m not accomplishing everything I want to accomplish each day.

Here’s to a better week for us all.

I also blog at A Five Star Life. I write about anything that comes to mind but try to focus on finding the good in daily life.

Thanks! I’ve been a part of the challenge for about a year. I just never announced it because I’m a dumbass.

That’s a great milestone to have reached in such a short period of time – are you going to increase your Alexa goal? Maybe top 150k? Top 100k?

Oh it hasn’t been a short time. I started this a year ago but then quit blogging for a few months. I’ve only really been working at this since September. Networking at FinCon and Yakezie is a huge part of my growth!

      Definitely shooting for top 100k!

Welcome back to the Yakezie challenge! Just curious, what part of the challenge did you fail at before? This could be helpful advice for somebody like me, so I know what to do or not to do.

I failed to announce my post first time around lol. Then I wasn’t active enough on the forum or really work at getting to know a lot of other blogs. I have just spent time getting to know people I met at FinCon. I’m fixing that now.

Hey there- I’m probably doing the Yakezie challenge starting this month. But I’m at (groan) 900,000-something in Alexa. I’ll be following you to see how it’s going. GOOD LUCK and rock on!

Thank you Amanda!! I have seen your blog, your name and your avi so many times since FinCon and I keep trying to find the spot in my mind that would remind me of the exact reason why I knew you, I figured it had to be FinCon but wasn’t remembering it perfectly. NOW I know. Thank you for clearing that up. And sorry for my lack of memory (growing old is a bitch!)
